Moritz Mutter studied journalism and communication studies, political science and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin and sociology and cultural studies at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). He is completing his doctorate within the framework of the research project, with a thesis on the intellectual history of disruption in the social sciences.
Outline of Research
Moritz Mutter’s project is part of the module “Intellectual History of Disruption” and deals with the history of the term and the concept of “disruption” in the social sciences. Although historically oriented, his approach is systemic. He is approaching the concept of disruption through a reconstruction of notions of order in the philosophy of history, social theories and sociology. The theoretical point of departure is the assumption that order and disruption are mutually constituted. On this basis, the intention is to examine the ways in which different conceptions of order go about constituting and reintegrating disruption. The focus of the investigation is provided by contemporary social theories, which view disruptions as constitutive of their object of study, and thus transmute a scheme of thought dedicated to order into its opposite.
